About the RETAIL skills academy

The RETAIL skills academy was established by City College Norwich for the benefit of:

  • retail businesses
  • retail employees and those planning to join the sector
  • local and visiting consumers
  • the local economy

The academy is a member of the National Skills Academy for Retail which was established by Skillsmart Retail, the skills council for the retail sector.

The RETAIL skills academy’s aims are to:

  • Improve the productivity of small and medium sized independent retailers
  • Optimise the impact the retail sector has on the local economy
  • Improve the perception of retailing as a career choice
  • Accelerate the success of individuals beyond their own expectations
  • Become recognised as the leading authority on retail skills and knowledge in Norwich

Meeting these objectives will overcome well researched skills gaps within the retail sector, attract talent into the sector and drive up the productivity of independents.

It will achieve its aims by:

  • delivering sector specific training and qualifications
  • identifying, developing and matching talent with retail businesses
  • providing training and services to improve business performance
  • providing information, advice and guidance to individuals

Most importantly, the academy’s products and services are designed for retailers and delivered by retailers with experience, expertise and success in the sector.  Its Board, representing local and national retailers, plays a significant role in developing the academy’s proposition.
